Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Leland

Sarah Elizabeth Leland passed into the arms of her savior early on the morning of December 12, 2017. She died peacefully in her sleep with her husband by her side and is rejoicing in heaven with her momma and daddy. Sally was born on July 28, 1943, at the home place in San Angelo, Texas, to Corrine and Creed Hasty. She grew up in a happy home full of love and laughter with nine brothers and sisters. In 1963 she married Horace Wells Leland III. She was a strong, loyal military wife who made every post a home and sometimes carried the load alone while Lee was overseas. Sally was a woman of many talents; she worked with her sister at Ashley’s Boot Shop for close to twenty years, repairing boots, shoes, handbags, and anything else that required ingenuity and skill. One summer she held a pair of shoulder pads she had repaired hostage until the Houston Oilers brought her a football signed by the whole team.  For the past 15 years, Sally enjoyed working with her girlfriends at Mar-tiques. Up until just a few weeks ago, she still went in to “work” twice a week. Marty and the girls brought her great joy and lots of laughter. Sally was devoted to her grandchildren (who could do no wrong) and was fond of saying, “What happens in Knickerbocker stays in Knickerbocker.” Machelle, Ellie, Gracie, Corina, and Lee will miss her dearly. One of the most valuable lessons Sally taught her children was that a pattern (or recipe, or instructions) is not required when something needs to be done. She always found a way to make that costume, build that manger, move that mountain, or bake that pie.  For many years Sally enjoyed hunting, fishing, and rock hunting and was known to play the slots occasionally. She crocheted beautifully and leaves behind many treasures for her family.  Sally is survived by her husband, Lee, of Knickerbocker; son, Chris, of Terlingua; daughter Leia and her husband Brandon Barker, of San Angelo; five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Richard Hasty and wife Mary Sue, Johnny Hasty, Carol Swaringen, EB Ryan and husband David, Norma Green-Martin and husband Jerald, and sister-in-law, Freddy Hasty. Many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins will miss her as well. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Corrine and Creed Hasty, and sibling/inlaws Kenneth Hasty, Ann and Vernon Rannefeld, Margaret and Alfred Ashley, Otis Green, Beverly Hasty, and Bill Swaringen. A memorial for family and close friends will be held at a later date. Because she loved helping people so much, Sally organized several benefit rummage sales for families in need. Making a donation to your favorite charity would be a wonderful way to honor her.

Gertrude "Trudy" Marie Day

Gertrude “Trudy” Marie Day, 83, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on December 2, 2017.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo with the Rev. Charles Greenwall officiating. Immediately following the mass, there will be an interment of her ashes in the columbarium. Trudy was born in Auburn, Maine to Louis and Loretta LaBerge on October 29, 1934. She went to school in San Diego, California where she married Lawrence “Larry” M. Day on September 25, 1952, in Saint Brigid’s Church. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. Trudy put her all into raising six strong children who loved her dearly. During her lifetime, she cared for and supported her children at home, often sacrificing her own needs, while Larry was away on numerous deployments in the military. Her selflessness and never-ending strength was the force that held the family together. She loved gardening, music, dance and being surrounded by her children. She taught her children the value of hard work, thankfulness, and the meaning of family. Trudy had many occupations during her life. One of the most memorable was her position as caregiver for Eli Stokols, son of Dan and Jeanne Stokols of Irvine. From the day she met them, Trudy embraced Eli and he grew to be part of her heart. We will remember her constant encouragement, her strength and wisdom, and her bright smile and laughter. Trudy was a devout Catholic all her life and was a part of Holy Angels Catholic Church where she attended mass every Sunday for over 30 years. Her love, devotion, and caring for others will be felt by many surviving generations. Just thirty days after Larry’s passing, Trudy left us and was reunited with him in heaven and now is celebrating with Our Father for eternity. Preceding Trudy in death is her husband of 65 years, Lawrence Milton Day, along with her second son, Charles Anthony, and her grandson, Aaron Michael. Trudy is survived by her five remaining children and their spouses, Lawrence and Valerie Day, Douglas A. Day, Russell and Jennifer Day, Patricia and Erik Pearson and Matthew L. Day; by her brothers and sisters, Connie, Sue, Vee, Andre, and Dennis; by her ten grandchildren, Honey, Jesse, Nathan, Isaac, Ashley, Caleb, Katie, Lauren, Grace, Ethan; and five great-grandchildren.  We ask that donations or memorials be made in Trudy's name to a Catholic charity of your choice or Holy Angels Catholic Church.  We wish to extend our sincere thanks to Harper's Funeral Home, Holy Angels Catholic Church and all friends and family for your generosity, thoughts, and prayers at this time of loss.

She grew up in a loving, close-knit family. Beth graduated from Central High School in 1971 and married Larry Tucker in September of that same year. Beth received her Real Estate license and worked as a realtor in her early adulthood. She was an artisan and did craft shows, worked at Molly and Friends, and later in life worked doing estate sales. Her real work was in her true love for volunteering. Throughout her life, Beth volunteered her time at her church, Community Hospital, the James Philip Williams Memorial Foundation, and at her children’s schools. She has been a church deacon and elder, beloved youth leader and Sunday school teacher, head of the hospital volunteers, and a board member at JPWMF. Her generous and loving spirit lives on in those she touched through these organizations and activities.  Beth would have said her greatest accomplishment was being a mother. Not only was she an amazing Mom to Melanie and Matt, but to so many others who considered her Mama Beth, Auntie Beth, or Mother Tucker. She shared her unconditional love with others in a way that made them feel like family. Over the years her numerous families included her Al-Anon family and Amen Sisters, church family, racing family, crafting family, softball family and many others. Beth lived her life full of faith, acceptance, gratitude, grace, joy and peace. Each person she touched can honor her memory by continuing her legacy and live our lives in this way, one day at a time. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Shannon Hospital and Hospice nurses, Shirley Jones and Debbie Bishop. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of San Angelo (HOSA), P.O. Box 471, San Angelo, TX, 76902 or Community Hills Christian Church Youth Camp Fund, 3309 Knickerbocker Rd, San Angelo, TX, 76904.
